Foreign Policy: "Global Empire"
"U.S. assistance more than often than not has also served the nation's strategic interests (p.665)." For many years, most of the foreign aid went to supporting U.S. geostrategic interests, particularly in countries such as Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, and Pakistan and focused on promoting transformational development. The most early and popularly known foreign aid was the one given to the reconstruction of Europe after World War II. One of the problems with foreign aid is that the citizens argue that their needs aren't met in the U.S. and therefore, should not be spending their aid in other countries. I have chosen this quote because it makes the United States seems like they wouldn't care about giving aid to other countries if it didn't benefit them in some way. In addition, the fact the U.S. citizens believe that more money should be going into their programs than to foreign THIRD-WORLD countries makes the citizens selfish as well as spoil...
