Discursive Institutionalism

Quote: "In the communicative sphere, discursive institutionalists emphasize the use of ideas in the mass process of public persuasion in the political sphere."

Discursive institutionalism is the idea that discourse shapes policy and institutions. It means that the idea of discursive institution is what drives the most of the policy related issues. It is what drives the American political debates and what makes America have the policies they have. For example, during the New Deal,  President. Roosevelt created a series of social and government spending programs. This idea was used as a public persuasion and made FDR seem as one of the greatest presidents because he brought back Americans back on their feet after the Great Depression.

The reason I chose this quote is because discursive institution is what drives most of the politics going on nowadays. Ideas are always brought into politics on how to better the lives of Americans and better relationships with other countries. As future leaders, we should take into account what ideas politicians bring us and pay attention to debates. We should pay attention what they are offering and how that will affect us.
